YOU'VE GOT QUESTIONS? WE'VE GOT ANSWERS!
WHERE & WHEN:
April 12-13, 2017
Address will be emailed upon registration.
WHY SHOULD I ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP?
Bob will teach you how to improve your off camera lighting skills by learning how to create depth and dimension to your images. You will learn the art of using all available light by blending ambient light and flash, and learn when to over power the ambient light for a clean, bright look. Get out of your comfort zone, break through it, learning to understand how light works will empower you and feed your creative soul.
This workshop will also give you insight and experience working along side the very best in the wedding industry, and how important it is to collaborate and share your ideas and photos with the all the vendors involved. Dawn will share her workflow process and how we provide images to vendors. Your couples are not your only word of mouth referrals. Creating customer evangelism in key to success!
WILL THERE BE ANY ASSISTANCE FOR NIKON SHOOTERS?
Bob does have a basic understanding of Nikon and the features they are capable of, but he does not have a deep understanding or their menu structure. For all the Nikon, Sony, Fuji and other camera users, Bob wants you to feel welcome. A camera is just the tool you use to bring your creative vision to life.
These are the features and functions Bob will be asking you to use and know how to access them, for example:
How to control and communicate with your off-camera flash wirelessly. There are many radio triggers on the market and Bob doesn't know how they all work and function, Bob will assist you as best he can should you encounter any challenges.
He requires reviewing the functions of your radio triggers before the shoot. Bring your manual just in case you need to look up a function or feature.
Know how to view the histogram in both luminance and RGB values and how to access and activate Live View and turn on exposure simulation to give you an accurate rendition of the scene as we make exposure and color adjustments in live view. Live View a great tool to dial in your color, expose and ambient light before ever taking a photo.
Be familiar with the holy trinity of exposure ISO, shutter speed and aperture. And how they are reciprocal of each other. Bob will be explaining and sharing the power of exposure and not always using what the camera meter is telling you.
Bob's goal is to not to teach you camera menus. His goal is to teach you LIGHTING and off camera flash, when is TTL best, how it works, manual flash why it's good to know and understand. He wants to empower you with knowledge on how to shape it, control it, color it, blend light and use the power of the ISO to capture stunning photographs. How not to be afraid of raising the ISO to a high level. He will have many different light modifiers on hand for you to experiment with throughout the day.
ANOTHER FANTASTIC REASON TO ATTEND:
You will leave this workshop with a better understanding of light and the power and possibilities of off camera flash. You will also leave with a finished portfolio of 5 printed photographs from this shoot to use in your business to showcase your talents.
HOW MANY WORKSHOP ATTENDEES WILL THIS BE AVAILABLE TO?
We've limited this workshop to 10 attendees.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Your passion for photography, an open mind to learn, be ready to work hard and trust our process... it works.
Bring your camera and at least three lenses. You can always rent any equipment for the day at www.lensprotogo.com. Bob recommends bringing a macro for small details, a medium zoom lens such as a 24mm - 70mm, and a large zoom lens such as a 70mm -200mm. At least two flashes, one for off camera and one for on camera for fill and if you have more bring them as well.
Bring your favorite small light modifiers such as MagMod MagSpheres and one larger modifier such as a Wescott's shoot through umbrella, CTO gels (correct to orange) most commonly used for color correcting. If you are a Nikon, Sony, older Canon Speedlites or any other camera brand, bring a means of communicating wirelessly (radio ...not line of sight) with your off camera flash.
Bring light stands, batteries, battery packs for your flashes and plenty of memory cards.
Bring a laptop with your choice of photo editing software for Day 2. Dawn will be using Photo Mechanic, Lightroom and Photoshop in her workflow.
Bring a selection of five photographs from Day 1 that you would like to edit. These will be printed for your portfolio. We can offer some help in making your selections if you feel over whelmed by selecting your favorite 5.
Bring your business cards and even a portfolio to share with everyone during breaks. It's a great way to network with each other. Check the attitudes at the door for this one. This is going to be FUN!!!
Ask anyone who has ever shot with Bob, he really does roll in heavy to a wedding as he never wants to limited by the equipment he didn't bring to complete his vision in the moment. He doesn't expect anyone to bring the amount of gear he rolls in with, he does recommend learning one piece of equipment at a time, and then purchase another and learn that, etc. This way you are not debilitating yourself by becoming overwhelmed with everything you need to learn.
IS IT OKAY IF I'M NOT A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?
Definitely! You can apply all the techniques you learn towards any type of photography. You do not have to be a wedding photographer. It is REQUIRED that you have a working knowledge of your equipment. This means you know the basics of ISO, Aperture, and you know your camera settings. Very important.
